A site should be designed primarily for the user and viewer satisfaction should be the main criteria. You need to keep a healthy balance of both optimization as well as user’s preference.
It is a common myth that the first impression is the lasting impression. You need to leave a good impression in the minds of your viewers so that they often visit to your sites and bookmark it for further reference. There is nothing worse than broken links and making your users landing on a page that has no relevant information.
In this case though, you will get site traffic but there will be no sales of your products if the site is not designed properly. One of the biggest nightmares for the webmaster traffic that does not convert
Search Engines and users prefer content rich websites with easy navigation, no pop up advertisements, less graphics and applets, and overall pleasing to the eye.
Avoid Framsets, hardcore JavaScript coding and links rendered as images. Use HTML heading tags and keep Flash to an absolute minimum.
Use both an HTML and XML Sitemaps so the user and the search engine spiders can navigate your site with each.
Use keywords in the anchor text of your text links to add to link reputation and please, please, please avoid the standard “Click here for more information”.
Keep it simple yet precise and update if often with content relevant to your product or service and you’ll soon be converting heaps more traffic into sales.
